FAQ
Why do serial devices need to convert signals between USB and DB9?
There are several main reasons why serial devices need to convert signals between USB and DB9:
1. Interface mismatch: USB and DB9 are two different interface standards, and the physical connection and electrical signal specifications between them are different. USB interfaces are usually used in modern computers and devices, while DB9 serial ports are usually used for old serial devices. Therefore, if you want to connect a DB9 serial device to a computer with a USB interface, signal conversion is required.
2. Conversion between digital and analog signals: USB interfaces use digital signals to transmit data, while DB9 serial ports usually use analog signals to transmit data. Therefore, digital and analog signals need to be converted between USB and DB9. This process is usually completed by a USB to Serial Converter, which converts the digital signals sent by the USB interface into analog signals that the DB9 serial device can understand, and converts the analog signals sent by the DB9 serial device into digital signals that the USB interface can understand.
3. Device compatibility: In some cases, users may need to connect modern computers or devices to old serial devices for data communication. Since modern computers generally no longer provide DB9 serial ports, a USB to DB9 signal converter is needed to achieve device compatibility.
Serial devices require signal conversion between USB and DB9, mainly because of interface mismatches and differences between digital and analog signals, as well as to achieve compatibility between modern computers and older serial devices.
