IFM Compatible Connection Cables
Explore compatible replacement cable assemblies for selected IFM connection, service and programming applications used in industrial automation, mobile equipment, control cabinets and equipment maintenance. This collection includes USB-to-M8 and USB-to-M12 service interfaces, M12 industrial Ethernet cable assemblies, serial programming leads, panel-mount USB interfaces and mixed power / signal harnesses.
Select a cable by the exact IFM reference number, device or module model, connector type, coding, gender, pin assignment, cable construction, mounting format and required length. A matching M8, M12, USB, D-Sub, RJ12 or AMP connector shell alone does not confirm that a cable is electrically or functionally suitable for the equipment.

How to Select an IFM Compatible Connection Cable
IFM-compatible cable selection should start with the original reference number and equipment interface, not just the visible connector. A reliable replacement must match the device-side connector, coding, mating gender, pin assignment, signal function, cable structure, installation format and environmental requirements. Where available, compare the original drawing or device manual before finalizing a replacement.
| Replacement Need | Typical Cable Format | Checks Before Ordering |
|---|---|---|
| External USB service access for an industrial device | USB-to-M12 or USB-to-M8 cable; panel-mount USB interface where required | Exact IFM reference, M8 or M12 coding, pin count, gender, USB connector type, device model, pinout, panel cutout, cable exit direction and protection requirement. |
| Industrial Ethernet connection between specified M12 interfaces | Shielded M12 Ethernet cable assembly | D-code or X-code at each end, gender, contact layout, pin assignment, Ethernet system requirement, shielding, cable category, endpoint compatibility and the permitted topology from the equipment documentation. |
| PLC, controller or gateway programming connection | D-Sub-to-RJ12 or other specified programming lead | Controller model, service-port function, connector gender, pinout, serial standard, cable length and whether the application needs a passive cable or an active converter. |
| Combined power and CAN / signal harness replacement | Specified multi-pin connector to open-end or custom termination harness | Connector series, contact positions, full wiring diagram, conductor sizes, current requirement, CAN pair or shield arrangement, open-end preparation, cable length and routing environment. |
| Custom replacement for a discontinued or modified installation | Custom cable assembly based on original sample, drawing or verified pinout | Clear photos of both mating faces, original part number, device model, pinout, wire list, dimensions, application, quantity and any required testing or labeling. |
Choose the Right Interface Format
USB-to-M8 / M12 Service Cable
Used when a computer or service device must connect to a defined M8 or M12 equipment interface. The connector code and pin assignment must match the service-port design. Do not assume that every circular M8 or M12 device connection carries USB signals.
Panel-Mount USB Interface
Used to bring a service connection through a cabinet or equipment wall. Confirm the front and rear connector interfaces, cutout size, panel thickness, cable direction, sealing arrangement and whether the product is rated for the intended installed and mated condition.
M12 Ethernet Cable Assembly
Used for specified Industrial Ethernet device interfaces. D-coded and X-coded connectors serve different interface requirements; use the exact configuration required by both endpoints and the system documentation. Cable coding does not itself provide speed conversion.
Four Checks That Prevent Incorrect Replacements
- Match the reference first. Send the original IFM part number and the equipment model. Similar product names can use different connector codes, pinouts or mounting formats.
- Verify the complete mating interface. Confirm connector type, coding, contact count, gender, keying and pin assignment on both ends. M12 thread size by itself is not a compatibility specification.
- Identify the actual function. State whether the connection is for service USB, Industrial Ethernet, serial programming, CAN / signal, power, or a combined harness. The same connector family can be used for different functions.
- Check the installed condition. Confirm cable length, panel cutout, bend space, straight or angled exit, shielding, strain relief, temperature, oil, vibration and ingress-protection requirement for the exact installation.

IFM Compatible Cable FAQ
Are these original IFM cables?
No. This collection contains compatible or aftermarket cable assemblies. IFM reference numbers are used only to identify the intended compatible application. Confirm the original part number, drawing and device interface before ordering.
Can I choose a replacement only because the connector looks the same?
No. Visual similarity is not enough. Confirm connector code, pin count, gender, keying, pinout, electrical function, cable construction and installation format. Two similar M12 or M8 connectors may serve different signal, data or power applications.
Does an M12 X-coded to D-coded cable convert 10 Gbps Ethernet to 100 Mbps Ethernet?
No. A passive cable does not perform data-rate or protocol conversion. Only use a mixed-code cable when the device documentation and system design explicitly confirm the interface, pin assignment and supported network operation at both endpoints.
Will a USB-to-M8 or USB-to-M12 cable work with every M8 or M12 device port?
No. M8 and M12 are connector families, not a guarantee of USB functionality. Verify the device model, original reference number, coding, contact arrangement and pinout. Some circular ports are intended for sensors, Ethernet, fieldbus, power or other functions.
Does a panel-mount interface remain IP-rated after installation?
Protection depends on the exact product, panel cutout, panel thickness, compatible mating part, sealing elements, cable assembly and installed condition. Check the product-specific documentation and use the interface only within its stated installation conditions.
Can you make a custom compatible cable when the length or open-end wiring is different?
Yes. Send the original part number or a clear drawing, connector photos, device model, required pinout, cable length, open-end requirement, application and quantity. We can review a compatible cable assembly based on the supplied information.
Need to match an IFM-compatible replacement cable?
Send the original reference number, device model and connector / pinout details for a compatibility review.
