Product Overview

The MS3106A14S-6P to MS3106A14S-6S cable assembly provides six individual electrical circuits between two items of equipment fitted with compatible 5015-style receptacles. It is suitable for carrying power, control or general electrical signals in machinery, test systems, instrumentation and custom OEM equipment.

One end is terminated with an MS3106A14S-6P straight plug containing six pin contacts. The opposite end uses an MS3106A14S-6S straight plug containing six socket contacts. Both connectors share the 14S shell size and the 14S-6 contact layout.

This product is manufactured to order rather than supplied as a fixed universal cable. The final wire gauge, cable length, circuit assignment, shielding method and protective construction are selected according to the connected equipment and approved wiring information.

Connector and Circuit Configuration

Cable End A MS3106A14S-6P straight plug
End A Contacts Six pin contacts, identified A through F
Cable End B MS3106A14S-6S straight plug
End B Contacts Six socket contacts, identified A through F
Shell and Insert 14S shell with 14S-6 insert arrangement
Standard Circuit Map A-A, B-B, C-C, D-D, E-E and F-F
Alternative Wiring Crossed, partially populated or customer-defined circuit assignment

Information Required for Production

Connector part numbers alone do not completely define the finished cable. The following information should be confirmed before manufacturing:

  • Mating receptacle part numbers or clear mating-face photographs
  • Required wiring relationship for contacts A through F
  • Power, control or signal function assigned to each circuit
  • Expected current and operating requirements for each conductor
  • Finished cable length and permitted length tolerance
  • Shielding requirement and shield termination method
  • Cable jacket, strain relief, labels and external protection

A customer drawing or pinout table is preferred. An existing cable sample can also be evaluated when complete documentation is unavailable.

Application Scenarios

  • Connection between industrial equipment and a control cabinet
  • Power and control links for machinery or motion-control equipment
  • Instrument, test-bench and measurement-system interconnection
  • Temporary service or diagnostic cables for equipment maintenance
  • Replacement harnesses for legacy electrical equipment
  • Low-volume and production OEM cable assemblies built to an approved pinout

Compatibility Guidance

Both ends are straight plugs: the P and S suffixes describe the installed pin or socket contacts. They do not change the MS3106A connector body into a receptacle. As a result, the two connectors on this cable are normally not intended to mate directly with each other.

Confirm the equipment interface: each cable end must mate with a compatible receptacle using the 14S shell size, 14S-6 insert layout, complementary contact type and matching keyway orientation.

Do not determine sealing from the A suffix alone: the environmental protection of the completed connection depends on the selected connector manufacturer, cable-entry components, cable outside diameter, assembly method and fully mated condition. State the required IP rating or operating environment when requesting a quotation.

Inspection Before Shipment

Every completed MS3106A14S-6P to MS3106A14S-6S cable assembly is checked against the approved wiring information. Electrical inspection includes continuity, open-circuit, short-circuit and incorrect-wiring tests. Connector orientation, cable length and specified identification are also verified before shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this an inline male-to-female extension cable?
A: Not in the usual connector-body sense. Both ends use MS3106A straight-plug bodies. One plug contains pin contacts and the other contains socket contacts, and each normally mates with a separate equipment receptacle.

Q: Is A-A through F-F the only available wiring?
A: No. Straight-through wiring is available as a standard configuration, but crossed, partially populated or customer-defined circuit assignments can be manufactured from an approved pinout.

Q: How should the conductor size be selected?
A: Wire gauge should be selected from the actual current, cable length, voltage-drop limit, temperature, cable bundling and simultaneous circuit loading. The connector contact rating should not be used as the only selection criterion.

Q: What should I provide for a replacement cable?
A: Provide both connector part numbers, clear connector photographs, overall cable length, contact-to-contact wiring, circuit requirements and any required shielding, labels or external protection. An existing cable sample can also be used for confirmation.
