1. Protocol and application scenarios:
Profinet: It is a real-time Ethernet protocol in industrial automation, designed for industrial control systems such as PLCs and robots, supports hard real-time and soft real-time communication, and meets the needs of high reliability and low latency.
GigE Ethernet: A standard Ethernet protocol suitable for computer networks, data transmission, Internet connections, etc. It mainly supports ordinary data communication and does not emphasize real-time performance.
2. Real-time and reliability:
Profinet: It provides hard real-time (RT) and soft real-time (IRT) communication, supports redundancy and ring network configuration, ensures high reliability and low latency, and is very suitable for industrial applications.
GigE Ethernet: It is mainly used for ordinary data transmission, and its real-time performance is not as good as Profinet. Although the priority can be increased through QoS, it does not provide hard real-time functions.
3. Cable design and anti-interference ability:
Profinet: It usually adopts a shielded design (such as S/FTP or F/UTP) to improve the ability to resist electromagnetic interference (EMI) and adapt to harsh industrial environments.
GigE Ethernet: supports shielded (STP) and unshielded (UTP) cables, suitable for office and home environments, but has weak anti-interference ability in high-interference environments.
4. Transmission distance and bandwidth:
Profinet: The transmission distance is usually 100 meters, supports high real-time performance, and is suitable for industrial scenarios. Supports different network rates, such as 10/100/1000Mbps.
GigE Ethernet: also supports a transmission distance of 100 meters and a rate of 1Gbps. Used for high-speed data transmission, but does not particularly optimize real-time performance.
Summary: Profinet cable is suitable for industrial automation, emphasizing real-time performance, reliability, and anti-interference performance; GigE Ethernet cable is used for standard data transmission, mainly focusing on bandwidth, and is suitable for offices, homes, and other environments.
