6P4C: means 6 pins (Position) and 4 connection pins (Contact). That is, among the six positions, four are actual connection pins, and the remaining two positions are usually empty and not contacted.
4P4C: means 4 pins and 4 connection pins. All pins have corresponding connection functions.


2. Purpose
6P4C: Usually used for telephone lines (especially the connection of some ordinary telephone equipment), can be used to connect telephones and telephone switches and other equipment, 6P4C has more empty positions (two unconnected pins), so it is sometimes used in two-line telephone line systems.
4P4C: Usually used in simpler telephone communication systems, especially four-line telephone systems, and is also suitable for some data transmission (such as small devices, low-speed transmission telephones and data communications).


3. Size and appearance
6P4C: It has a larger appearance because it contains more pin positions and is usually used for more complex devices (such as home phones, telephone switches, etc.).
4P4C: It is smaller and has fewer pins, and is usually used for simpler telephone devices and connections.


4. Connection method
6P4C: It is often used in telephone systems and requires more wiring. The signal is transmitted through 4 pins, and the remaining 2 pins are left blank to adapt to specific equipment requirements.
4P4C: All pins are connected, which is suitable for simpler equipment, usually a single telephone line or small data transmission applications.


5. Compatibility
Both 6P4C and 4P4C belong to the similar RJ (Registered Jack) series, especially telephone line connections, but 6P4C can provide more connection options, so it can support more functions in certain devices or systems.
