AV Processor (Audio Video Processor) is a core device specially used in home theater or high-end audio system. Its main function is to process audio and video signals and output them to power amplifier and display device (such as TV or projector) respectively. It works similarly to traditional AV receiver, but does not contain power amplifier and only focuses on signal processing.
The main functions of AV Processor include:
1. Audio decoding and processing
- Decoding multi-channel audio formats (such as Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Auro-3D, etc.)
- Providing equalizer (EQ), sound field correction (such as Dirac Live, Audyssey)
- Managing the distribution of audio signals (front, center, surround, subwoofer, etc. channels)
2. Video switching and processing
- Multiple HDMI input and output switching
- Supporting the transmission of 4K and 8K video signals
- Video upscaling, HDR (high dynamic range) processing
3. Connection control center
- Serves as a bridge between all audio and video devices (Blu-ray players, game consoles, streaming media players, etc.) and audio/display systems
- Providing control interfaces such as RS-232, IP control, IR control, Trigger output, etc., for easy integration into smart home systems
4. Output to independent multi-channel amplifiers
- AV Processor outputs the processed signal to an external multi-channel power amplifier (Power Amplifier) to drive the speakers.
